From Partimage-ng
We all have day jobs and hence our time is limited. But there is a lot of tasks to solve and ideas to implement. Get in touch if you want to lend a helping hand or have another cool idea.
- New web-site theme. This site is based on MediaWiki and uses the cavendish theme. If you have new ideas get in touch.
- Forum. We need to setup a forum. The requirements are: integration with MediaWiki (shared user accounts), common theme with the website.
- Packages. Ideally, we would like to see partimage-ng included in major distros as soon as we give it enough testing. Until then it would be great to maintain packages somewhere for easy installation (I guess the openSUSE build service would suffice).
- GUI application. Currently we have a shared library (libpartimage-ng) that performs the save/restore and other related operations and a CLI utility for it. Writing a GUI utility would be easy if you have some spare time.
- Kernel driver for mounting images. See [1] for more information.
- Embedded backup/restore system. Equipment manufacturers can use partimage-ng to create an image of the hard drive and store the image on a hidden partition or a supplementary media which can be used to restore the computer to its original factory state. Such systems are very common among laptop manufacturers. Ideally it would be a live CD that can automatically create a hidden partition and install a tiny linux system on it along with partimage-ng and CD/DVD recording utilities. A GUI version of partimage-ng is a requirement in this case.
- Tips and tricks content. Are you using partimage-ng to clone hundreds of systems via multicasting? Are you using partimage-ng to backup/restore virtual machines? What else can one do with partimage-ng? Share your experience on the TipsAndTricks page.
